Using block lists you can prevent your ads from running on specific websites, apps and Page content.
Block lists can be used to prevent ads showing within:
- Pages participating in the Facebook in-stream video placement
- Websites and apps within the Audience Network
- Domains of specific publishers for the Instant Articles placement
- Business Manager: choose whether to create or apply the block list to all the business's ad accounts or individual ad accounts.
- Ads Manager: apply the block list to that ad set only. Any existing business-level block lists will also be applied.
Create a block list
- In a .CSV or .TXT file, create a list of the website domains, app store URLs and Facebook Page URLs where you don't want your ads to appear. You can include one domain or URL per line.
- To block a Facebook Page for the in-stream video placement, you'll need to add URLs in the format www.facebook.com/ plus the ID of the Page. To find the Facebook ID of each Page, visit the Page, click About and add the Page ID to the end of www.facebook.com/. For example Page ID 12355578 would be added as https://www.facebook.com/12355578.
- Save the file to your computer.
Upload a block list in Business Manager:
- Go to Business Manager and click Business Settings.
- Click Block Lists from the left navigation.
- Click Create Block List > Upload File.
- Choose the .CSV or .TXT file on your computer that includes your block list and click Open.
- Click Create Block List. You can review your block list by clicking on the file name.
- Now the block list needs to be applied. Go to Business Settings > Block Lists.
- Select your block list, which should now be listed. Toggle Apply to all ad accounts, or click Assign Ad Accounts to apply the block list to selected ad accounts. To do this, you need to be a Business Manager admin.
When a campaign is created in Ads Manager, you'll now be able to see the block lists that have been assigned to the ad accounts at the ad set level.
Add a block list to your ad set in Ads Manager:
- Go to Ads Manager
- Choose your objective, name your campaign and add your audience details.
- In the Placements section, click the circle next to Edit Placements.
- Click Apply Block List and choose the block list(s) you'd like to use. Block lists set up at the ad account level will automatically be applied. You can also click Ad Set Block Lists to add a block list unique to this campaign. If you haven't got any block lists, you can choose Create a block list to make one.
- Add your budget, schedule and creative to finish.
