You mistakenly deleted a message on Facebook
and now you think since you’ve deleted them, they are gone and you
cannot get them back? This article will guide you on how you can
recover deleted Facebook messages.
Email Notifications: If Facebook notification email is
activated on your Facebook account and you receive message notifications in
your email account, it is possible that you still have a copy of the deleted
message. To check your notification settings to see if you have them set to
send you message notifications.
Log in to your Facebook account, then
to open
your settings,
Click on the downward-facing triangle on the top right corner of your page. This
opens a drop-down menu with options like “Create Page”, “Activity Log”, “Log
Out”, and “Help”. Click on “Settings” in this drop-down.
Click on the “Notifications” tab on the left side of the
“Settings” window. Click on “Edit” next
to your “Email” notifications settings. The image below shows your Facebook email notification status
Asides the email notification settings there are other ways
you can retrieve deleted Facebook messages but Keep in mind it works only if
you click the little 'x' button in
the corner to conceal the message. If you click the "Erase
Discussion" link, your Facebook messages are gone permanently and even a
court order will not make Facebook retrieve it for you.
On some web browsers, if by deleting a message from your
inbox, you only tapped the “x” next to the message on the desktop, as we stated
earlier, you didn’t delete it. You archived it. From the More dropdown
menu in your Messenger inbox, tap Archived. Here, you’ll see all the messages
you’ve archived. Hopefully, you’ll find your message here. (You can search the
contact’s name in the search bar, and your full conversation history should pop
up.) If the message isn’t here, you did delete it. And unfortunately, it is
gone but logically it is only from your inbox. If the other party hasn’t
deleted it, they still have it on their phone. That means, if you’re still on
good terms with that person, you could ask them to re-send the information or
take a screenshot of their conversation with you.
And if you are not on
speaking terms with that contact, you can follow this Step by step guide on how
to View Deleted Messages on Facebook.
- Open the Web edition of Facebook on your Mac or PC.
- On the left corner, click the Messages icon, and a drop-down menu will appear. Click "See All" option at the bottom of the drop-down.
- In the right-hand pane, besides "Inbox" and "Others," locate "More." Click it, and click "Archive" in the menu that appears.
Here, you will see those messages that you
believed were gone permanently.
This approach works perfectly because luckily the
"x" button clicked is, in fact, an Archive button rather of an Erase
button. So when you click the "x" button, your message gets archived
and eliminated from your inbox. When you access your Archive, all the messages
will appear once again. Therefore, with this in mind next time you wish to remove
the message, click the "x" button rather of the "erase
discussion" link unless you want it gone permanently.
